Stevenson Trail

6 days of running in the footsteps of Robert Louis Stevenson.
The September 22, 1878, Robert Louis Stevenson certainly did not suspect that it opened a path in the mythical world of hiking. Hiking Loz'air you to follow in his footsteps, not accompanied by a donkey, as did the latter, but know! Claude invites you to relive the most beautiful part of the journey of this mountainous Mediterranean Adventurer, Forest Mercoire to St Jean du Gard. A journey rich in history ...!

  • 2008 Dates: From June 9 to 14 and July 7 to 12 or date of your choice with or released.
  • Appointment: 10 am A hotel restaurant "Le Refuge", direction ski resort of Mont Lozère.
  • Group: 5 to 12 people.
  • Level: Confirmed, you run at least 3 times a week, you want a change of scenery, maintain your shape and discover new horizons.
    A good compromise to enjoy a holiday without stopping the workout.

Day after day

Day 1: Step 1: Forest Mercoire / la Bastide
Ascent: + 531 m, 25 km

  • 9am: Welcome to the village Alpiers and departure for the forest Mercoire minibus.
    After the ascent of the Moure Gardille 1502m above sea level, highest point of the field Mercoire, a 360 degree view of the Mont Lozère Margeride and for them to impress!
    We will leave towards the Abbey "Notre-Dame-des-Neiges" of Trappist monks, to the ridge line east / west between Lozère and Ardèche. We will join the Bastide Puylaurent to the lodge of the star.

Day 2: Step 2: La Bastide / the Caps
Ascent: + 747 m, 30 km

We will follow the valley of the Allier.
We cross the picturesque railway already under construction when Stevenson made his journey in 1878. Then we begin the ascent of Goulet, who will lead us to his cap, to the sources of the Lot and the village Serremesjean forgotten!

Day 3: Step 3: Hats / Villeneuve
Ascent: + 720 m, 32 km

For the vast Languedoc draille, we will go to the top of Finiels 1700 m, highest point of Mt Lozère from where we can admire the view almost intact since the time of passage of our adventurer. We will heading due east to the sources of the Tarn to join the stronghold of the Knights of Malta. This is a simple and warm note we end the day, welcome to the family farm in the hamlet of Villeneuve MOLINE.

Day 4: Step 4: Villeneuve / Mijavols
Ascent: + 445 m, 30 km

Here we are in a unique landscape Cévenol country!
We cross the Tarn at Gasbiel, former border between freehold and Visigoth. We will travel by camisards countries, on the ridges of the mountain of the den. Since the neck of Sapet, we reach the hamlet of Mijavols.

Day 5: Step 5: Mijavols / the Serre de la Can
Ascent: + 413 m, 28 kms

Our journey continues Cevennes.
We will follow the old railway line, along the Mimente Florac to the station disused Cassagnas converted into a hostel. We assemble to plan Fontmort, a place profoundly influenced by Protestantism and the Resistance. We will go down smoothly to the Serre de la Can in the land of asylum.

Day 6: Step 6: The Serre de la Can / St Jean du Gard
Ascent: + 520 m, 25 km

Between Lozere and Gard, direction St Germain de Calberte the heart of "The land of refuge." Then we will take the royal road of the pass St Peter, to St Jean du Gard, the final stage of the adventure of Robert Louis Stevenson and his Annesse Modestine.
Back to Alpiers minibus.

End of the stay to 17h.

Practical information

  • Possibility of organizing shuttles to the main stations or Mende Villefort (17 € / person) only on request from Loz'air Hiking.

Equipment: Good walking shoes or athletic shoes, warm clothing arctic windproof or waterproof raincoat, small backpack for picnic and personal affairs, water bottle, sunscreen, sunglasses, clothing soft and comfortable for all day, swimsuit, towel, personal medicine, especially for small worries of bulbs (eg flexible plastics and Compeed).

Remember that we are in the South of France, but at 1400m it can still be cold in June

  • Accommodation: lodging, room for 4 to 6 beds (room for 4 to 6 beds) or if you wish in a single room supplement.
  • Price: from € 170 per person, lodging, full board. Possibility hotel room, at cost, subject to availability.

This proposed tariff is set for a group of 20 people and depends on your self-transport, minibus available eventually. We can offer you the same route, renting a means of transport in Lozere, but it will necessarily inflate the cost of living ... to study

  • The price includes: supervision by qualified guides, board and lodging, picnicking, access to the fitness of the Thermes de Bagnols les Bains.
  • Not included: drinks at the bar or during meals, round trip, and individual insurance.
